Sometimes I Feel Defeated
There are days when I feel strong.
I can look at how far I've come and recognize the growth.
I can see the things I've survived and feel proud that I'm still standing.
And then there are other days.
Days when I feel defeated.
Days when the weight of everything feels heavier than usual.
Days when I wonder if all the work I've done has really made a difference.
Those days can be hard to admit.
Because when you've spent so much time talking about healing, strength, and moving forward, it can feel like you're not supposed to have moments when you just don't have anything left.
But I do.
Sometimes I feel defeated.
Healing Can Be Exhausting
I think people sometimes imagine healing as this beautiful, peaceful journey where every day brings progress.
My experience hasn't always been that way.
Healing can be exhausting.
You have to face things you'd rather forget.
You have to recognize patterns you don't like.
You have to admit when something hurts.
You have to learn new ways of responding.
You have to forgive yourself for things you wish you had done differently.
And sometimes you simply get tired.
Not because you've stopped wanting to heal.
Because you've been trying for a long time.
Some Days I Just Don't Have It in Me
There are days when I don't want to be strong.
I don't want to figure everything out.
I don't want to analyze why I'm feeling something.
I don't want to turn another difficult experience into a lesson.
Sometimes I just want to acknowledge that today is hard.
And I think I'm allowed to do that.
I don't have to find a silver lining in every painful moment.
I don't have to pretend that everything is okay.
Sometimes I need to sit with the fact that I'm having a difficult day and give myself permission to feel it.
Feeling Defeated Doesn't Mean I've Lost
This is something I've had to learn.
Feeling defeated and actually being defeated are two different things.
There is a difference between saying,
"I can't do this today,"
and saying,
"I can never do this."
Sometimes I can't do something today.
That doesn't mean I won't be able to tomorrow.
Sometimes I need to rest.
Sometimes I need support.
Sometimes I need to step away from something and come back to it later.
That isn't giving up.
That's recognizing my limits.
My Past Can Still Hurt
There are parts of my past that I wish didn't have the ability to affect me anymore.
Sometimes I get frustrated with myself because I think I should be further along.
I wonder why something that happened years ago can still bring up emotions today.
But healing doesn't erase history.
And progress doesn't mean becoming completely unaffected by everything that has happened.
Sometimes something still hurts.
That doesn't mean I haven't healed.
It means I'm human.
Motherhood Makes Those Days Complicated
Feeling defeated as a mother can come with another layer of guilt.
There is always that voice asking:
Am I doing enough?
Am I being a good enough mother?
Are my struggles affecting my daughter?
Should I be handling this better?
I have had to remind myself that being a good mother doesn't mean never struggling.
It doesn't mean always having the right answer.
It doesn't mean being emotionally perfect every day.
My daughter doesn't need a perfect mother.
She needs a mother who loves her, takes responsibility for herself, and keeps trying.
I Don't Want Her to Think Strength Means Never Struggling
One of the things I hope my daughter learns from watching me is that strength isn't pretending you're okay.
I don't want her to grow up believing that she has to hide every difficult emotion.
I want her to know that it's okay to have a bad day.
It's okay to cry.
It's okay to say, "I need help."
It's okay to rest.
It's okay to start over.
And it's okay to feel defeated without believing that feeling has to define you.
Sometimes I Have to Take Life One Day at a Time
When everything feels overwhelming, thinking about the future can make things worse.
So sometimes I make the goal smaller.
I don't need to figure out the rest of my life today.
I don't need to solve every problem.
I don't need to heal every wound.
I just need to get through today.
Sometimes that means doing the basics.
Getting out of bed.
Taking care of myself.
Eating something.
Taking a shower.
Making my bed.
Brushing my teeth.
Doing whatever small thing reminds me that I'm still moving.
Those little things count.
I Have to Stop Measuring My Progress by Perfect Days
For a while, I thought progress meant having fewer bad days.
Now I think progress can look different.
Maybe progress is recognizing a bad day sooner.
Maybe it's knowing when I need support.
Maybe it's recovering faster.
Maybe it's not allowing one difficult moment to turn into an entire week of self-destruction.
Maybe it's forgiving myself instead of criticizing myself.
Maybe it's simply knowing that tomorrow is another opportunity.
Progress isn't always obvious.
Sometimes it's happening quietly.
There Are Still Reasons to Keep Going
Even when I feel defeated, there are things that remind me why I keep going.
My daughter.
My family.
The people who love me.
The things I still want to accomplish.
The stories I still want to tell.
The person I'm still becoming.
There are chapters of my life that haven't been written yet.
I don't know exactly what they will contain.
But I know I don't want a difficult day to convince me that there is nothing left ahead.
There is always another page.
I Can Be Tired Without Giving Up
Maybe this is the lesson I need to remember most.
I can be tired.
I can be frustrated.
I can cry.
I can feel angry.
I can feel lost.
I can have a day where I don't feel strong.
And none of those things mean I've given up.
Sometimes continuing looks like moving forward.
Sometimes it looks like resting.
Sometimes it looks like asking someone to stand beside me.
Sometimes it looks like doing nothing more than making it through the day.
All of those things can be part of continuing.
Tomorrow Doesn't Have to Be Today
If today is a difficult day, I don't have to decide that tomorrow will be difficult too.
I can let today be today.
I can feel what I feel.
I can take care of myself.
And then I can try again.
Maybe tomorrow I'll have more energy.
Maybe I'll feel stronger.
Maybe I'll still struggle.
Either way, I will deal with tomorrow when it gets here.
I don't need to borrow tomorrow's strength today.
I Am Still Here
When I feel defeated, I sometimes forget to look at the bigger picture.
I've survived difficult chapters before.
I've made it through days I didn't think I could get through.
I've fallen apart and found ways to put myself back together.
I've asked for help.
I've started over.
I've kept going.
And I'm still here.
That matters.
Maybe more than I realize.
A Bad Day Doesn't Rewrite My Story
I am learning that I don't have to be strong every minute to be a strong person.
I don't have to feel hopeful every day to still have hope.
I don't have to feel healed every day to still be healing.
And I don't have to feel successful every day to still be moving forward.
Sometimes I will feel defeated.
That's part of being human.
But a feeling is not a prophecy.
It doesn't tell me how my story ends.
So when those days come, I'm going to try to remind myself:
**I may feel defeated today, but I am not defeated.
I may be tired, but I am not finished.
I may need to rest, but I don't have to give up.
Today may be hard.
But today is only one day.
And tomorrow, I get another chance to begin again.**
